A two year communications grant to:
• Translate the conference into Spanish and English
• Offer digital access in both languages to the proceedings of recent World Monuments Fund conferences held in the US and Asia that addressed sensitive economic development associated with tourism
World Monuments Fund is concerned about the accelerating destruction of important artistic treasures throughout the world. The organization works internationally to conserve, preserve, and promote cultural heritage and architectural sites of significant importance.
Tourism to Havana has put tremendous pressure on the city’s infrastructure, and municipal agencies are not yet sufficiently prepared for an upsurge in new development. In order to prevent irrevocable damage to the historic cityscape by development projects, World Monuments Fund convened a working group of Cuban and international architects, preservationists, and planners from the Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad de La Habana, the Physical Planning Institute, the Ministry of Transportation, and other institutions to produce a set of recommendations, conceive collaborations, pilot projects, and publish a roadmap.
Easy access to best practices, innovative strategies, and access to international specialists are essential for Cuban professionals as they work to maximize the use of their vast cultural heritage assets while safeguarding them for posterity.
The CORA Foundation is dedicated to safeguarding and celebrating culture and heritage. The foundation works on a global scale to support projects that protect, elevate, and interpret culture and heritage in all its forms.
